BOARDING

Check your boarding pass to see which gate you will board from and pay attention to announcements on the Public Address System. When your flight is ready for boarding the airline staff the departure lounge will provide further guidance.

Depending on where the aircraft is parked, passengers will either board the aircraft through boarding bridges (for aircraft parked at the aerobridge) or transported with special buses and then onto the aircraft via accommodation ladders (for aircraft parked in remote spaces).

GUIDENCE ON CHECKED BAGGAGE

The list above is not exhaustive so you may wish to check with your airline for further guidance.

Passengers are advised to pack as much as they can in their checked-in baggage and bear in mind the allowable weight as indicated on their air ticket. This will avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, ease their movement through terminals and help them get through security much quicker. Also, there are certain items that passengers are allowed to carry onto the aircraft in checked-in baggage but not in hand-held baggage. These include:

  • Liquids, creams, gels and pastes in containers over 100mls
  • Sharp items including scissors
  • Tools (including multi-tools and penknives)
  • Cross bows and arrows

Restricted items that are allowed in hand-held luggage with caution include:

  • Shaving machines but only those whose razor blade sets are in a plastic moulding
  • Hypodermic needles (if necessary for medical reasons) but for which proof will be required

GUIDANCE ON HAND HELD BAGGAGE

Passengers are advised to carry the very minimum of hand-held baggage. The rules for hand-held baggage can be summarized as follows:

  • One piece of hand luggage (with exceptions) not exceeding 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Most airlines allow one piece of hand-held baggage as well as a handbag. However, please check with your airline to be sure.
  • Hand-held baggage must not contain any prohibited items.
  • Only small amounts (100mls or less) of liquids, gels, creams and pastes are allowed and should be placed in one transparent, re-sealable, airtight bag (maximum size: 20cm x 20cm). This will be screened separately. The following items are considered as liquids and must not be packed in hand-held baggage:
    • Hairspray and other aerosol items
    • Creams and lotions
    • Sun-tanning and sun cream products
    • Liquid soap
    • Toothpaste
