The Office of Chief Parliamentary Draftsman (OCPD) plays a vital role in the transformation of policy into laws that promote justice, fairness and development. Our people sit at the heart of our work, parliamentary draftsmen, state attorneys, law revisors, law secretaries and other support staff, bringing expertise, integrity and commitment to every legislative task. Since its establishment as part of the Attorney General's Chambers and its subsequent restructuring, OCPD remains committed to its Vision of becoming the centre of excellence in legislative drafting. Our role begins when a legislative need is first identified, and we remain actively involved throughout the drafting process, the Parliamentary proceedings and beyond, to ensure that the enacted laws serve the nation effectively. We focus on providing high-quality and accessible legislation for sustainable development, ensuring clarity and precision in all that we do. Beyond drafting, we work closely with the Parliament, Judiciary, Government institutions and other stakeholders to simplify legal language and promote our Mission of ‘provision of quality and accessible legislation for sustainable development’. Our commitment extends to fostering partnerships that promote economic stability, growth and human rights, building sustainability for Tanzania.
