Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba is a distinguished economist with a proven track record in public service and academia. Currently, Dr. Mwamba serves as the Permanent Secretary and Paymaster General at the Ministry of Finance, making her the first woman to hold this position in Tanzania. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Mwamba held the prestigious role of Deputy Governor at the Bank of Tanzania from 2011 to 2023. Notably, she was the first woman to hold this position as well. Dr. Mwamba's academic background is equally impressive. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and a Master's degree from the University of Dar es Salaam. Her research interests lie in financial inclusion, the informal sector, the transport sector, microeconomics, gender issues, and policy analysis.  Furthermore, she is a prolific scholar with numerous academic publications covering various economic, social, and women's issues. Dr. Mwamba's leadership extends beyond academia and central banking. She previously served as the Board Chair of the Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company (Kadco).  Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the first woman to manage the economic and financial policies portfolio within the Deputy Governor's office at the Bank of Tanzania.
