CONSTRUCTION/WORKS SECTOR

1.

Construction of Kibaha – Mlandizi - Chalinze Expressway - Lot 1  78.9Km

The Kibaha-Morogoro road is experiencing high levels of congestion and has poor service, which requires immediate attention. The increase in traffic volume is primarily due to the growth of economic activities within the country and neighboring countries. The current travel time from Kibaha to Chalinze is 2 hours. However, if an expressway is constructed, travel time will be reduced to 1 hour. The current condition of the road has significantly increased traveling time and vehicle operations costs (VOC). The project will be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, where road users will be charged for the use of the road. The proposed toll expressway will be constructed on a new alignment parallel to the existing Morogoro road. The existing Morogoro road will continue to be in optimal use to allow traffic and other road users who may not be willing to pay the toll.

2.

Igawa-Tunduma (189 Km) and Mbeya Bypass (48.9 km)

O&M

The Dar es Salaam Corridor is a crucial route for facilitating import and export activities and contributing to the GDP growth of neighboring landlocked countries. It starts from the Dar es Salaam port. The Uyole-Songwe Bypass aims to reduce congestion in Mbeya City caused by heavy truck traffic, leading to longer travel times, increased vehicle operating costs, and higher accident rates. This will benefit the Morogoro, Iringa, and Mbeya regions, offering a more efficient route towards Zambia, DRC, and Malawi.

Concept note

3.

Construction of Chalinze – Morogoro Expressway Lot 2  - 128 Km

The current travel time from Chalinze to Morogoro is 2 hours whereas if

the Expressway is provided travel time will be reduced to 1 hour
