A bone marrow transplant (BMT) is a medical procedure offered at our hoptal in the department of Hematology, it is mainly a scientific approach of replacing damaged or dysfunctional marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells. Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue inside bones that produces blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Bone marrow transplants are typically used to treat diseases affecting the blood and bone marrow, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and some types of anemia.
Under the leadership of Dr. Stella Walangahe who champion the collaboration with Italian firm we are currently offering Autologous Transplant, Allogeneic Transplant: and planning to include Umbilical Cord Blood Transplant: to date we have successfully transplatedbbone marrow for 11 sickle cell diseased patient
Our patients pathways follows through the following steps
- Conditioning Treatment:
- The patient undergoes chemotherapy, radiation, or both to destroy their diseased bone marrow.
- Healthy stem cells are infused into the patient's bloodstream, where they migrate to the bone marrow and begin producing new, healthy blood cells.
- The patient is monitored closely for infections, graft-vs-host disease (in allogeneic transplants), and other complications during the early recovery phase, which can last weeks to months.
