Who we are
Tanzania Forest Fund is a Public Conservation Trust Fund established under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism as a sustainable funding mechanism for supporting forest protection, conservation, management and development in Tanzania Mainland. The Fund is established under sections 79 to 83 of the Forest Act Cap. 323 and was made operational in July, 2010 through Treasury Circular No. 4 of 2009. Tanzania Forest Fund is governed by a Board of Trustees and the day-to-day operations are carried out by Fund Secretariat headed by an Administrative Secretary.
Public Awareness
The priority areas for funding by Tanzania Forest Fund are those which aim at conserving and managing the forests sustainably. Based on the discussions with respondents as well as review of various documentations especially the National Forest Policy, issues that need to be addressed include forest land management so as to ensure sustainable supply of products and services by maintaining sufficient forest area under effective management; enhancing forest based industry and products; ensuring ecosystem conservation and management as well as enhancing the national capacity to manage and develop the forest sector in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Tanzania Forest Fund awards four types of grants, namely; small grants, medium grants, large grants, and special purpose grants. These grant categories are differentiated by amount of money offered, eligible beneficiaries, project implementation duration and contribution to forest protection, conservation, management and development. The grants types are elucidated hereunder as follows: Small Grants (Amounts not exceeding Tanzania Shillings (TZS) 10 million), Medium Grants (Amounts above TZS 10 million but not exceeding TZS 20 million), Large Grants (Amounts above TZS 20 million but not exceeding TZS 50 million), Special Purpose Grants (Amount exceeding TZS 50 million).
