Mwemezi Kabululu is a veterinarian registered by the Veterinary Council of Tanzania. He holds a PhD in veterinary parasitology and public health. He joined Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI) in 2009 as a Researcher, and currently acts as Zonal Director of TALIRI central zone.
His research interest is on epidemiology and control of parasites of veterinary and public health importance, with a focus on One Health approach. In recent years, he has been working extensively on control of parasites of pigs of smallholder rural farmers, with a particular interest on a zoonotic tapeworm, Taenia solium.
Mwemezi has collaborated with researchers from universities including University of Copenhagen, University of Zambia, University of Melbourne, Ghent University; and organisations/institutes including Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines (GALVmed), Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM, Belgium) and National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR, Tanzania). His recent collaboration project is development of an antibody detecting point of care test for the diagnosis of Taenia solium infections in humans, in community and hospital settings, in Zambia and Tanzania, respectively.
Mwemezi has authored at least 10 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and has made presentations in a number of scientific conferences/congresses including the International Congress of Parasitology (ICOPA) and World’s One Health Congress.
